Alright, so I'm bored. To cure my boredom, I decided to chronicle the various written submissions I list in this journal in one clean, organized post. I'll include links to the projects as well as to the individual LiveJournal posts where I make short synopsis' for each individual chapter. So, treat this post something like a table of contents for the portion of my posts that have to do with writing and you'll get the general idea I was striving for. Let's begin, shall we?

Over the years I seem to have developed a pattern in most of the leisurely activities I pursue. I get moderately involved in something, then I lose all interest in it for a while. Shortly after, I become interested once again, and deeply immerse myself in it (or so it feels at the time) Sounds good so far, right? Well, then something usually happens that makes me realize I'm a bloody fool, and after moping for a bit, I actively begin to forget everything I knew about my activity and re-learn it, from the ground up. This pattern has held true for everything from holding a social life to playing games.
If I feel like being creative, I can sort of think of it like the way a story's plot advances. Interesting, eh? I think you see where I'm going with this now.
If you've read any posts I've ever put up here, you'll see that I have followed this particular pattern with my writing. I think, at the moment, I'm right up to the point where I realize I'm a bloody fool and mope. Now, again, if you read my journal you'll be familiar with an event that, to make a long story short, resulted in the loss of what I felt was a good deal of work. Strangely enough I don't feel that this is what has driven me to this point of my pattern. Instead, I think that it's related to something that caught my eye a few days ago.
I have, through an incredible spin of good luck, come across a new book that works well as a guideline for fledgling writers. It was sitting in the window of a used book store that I pass by when I walk downtown, and when I saw it, I couldn't resist buying it (For a whopping twenty-five cents. Huzzah!)
Now as I read this book, I'm looking back at some of the story chapters I have posted on line, paying particular attention to the comments people leave on them. And I have to admit, what I am seeing now very much disappoints me. If I wanted to be fair to myself, I would say it's not too bad. For a first step. However, it seems to me that now that I've got an easy resource to at least better my stories, I ought to take the second step. Which of course means that I feel it will soon be time to write once more.
Why do I suddenly hear "The cavalry has arrived!" in the back of my mind? Ego, perhaps? Or maybe it's that I'm actually enjoying the thought of writing once again, even more than I expected I would? Either way, it amuses me.
I am, once this post is done, going to open my word processor, and I'm going to write something (and save it to a goddamn hard drive partition.) If I deem it fit for public consumption after prettying it up a little, I'll make another post here about it. If not, I'll likely post here again when I do have something ready to go.

I've been meaning to make this post for some time, but I've been quite successful in putting it off until now. If you frequent this journal (all of what.. two people do?), you'll realize that I've neglected to make any additions to my short list of stories, even though I was quite eager to work on them due to recent changes.
No point in beating around the bush, the stories are on hold for a while. I've got a good friend, goes by Takeya, who gave me a rather awesome gift. A new comp tower, in fact. And a damn fast one, at that. My eyes nearly fell out of my head when I saw it. I'm that geeky, yes.
Anyway, I had a mishap with setting the new computer up, and to make a long, painful story short, I formatted the drive in which all of my written files were stored. Purely incidental, I assure you. My online backups were useless, as I only back up a chapter when I've finished and posted it for public viewing -- which means I can just re-acquire the stories I've posted easily enough. The next installments in those stories, however, are all gone. As are a few short stories, including one that I'd been asked to write for a friend that was nearing the 20k word count, and it's finale. Needless to say, when I realized my error, I was thoroughly ticked off. I know, the stories can all be re-written, even written so that they're better than before, but I just don't have it in me at the moment. I look at a word processor and scoff, more or less. Which is probably the main reason I've put off updating this journal, as well.
Now, I know I'll get around to it eventually, writing those story chapters again, but I don't think it'll happen for at least a while. So, don't expect anything soon. I will, of course, made another entry here when I've either got something mildly interesting to say, or if I've got another chapter up for you all to read again.

Alright, so it isn't what I normally write, but I do have some new submissions I'd like to note.
This is actually a new story. If you must, it could reasonably be called a 'fanfic', though I abhor that term usually. It's a story that I wrote based on the world of Ragnarok Online, with the new guild I've just joined in mind. It begins, as you'll see by reading, with no referrence to the players of my new guild (Sorry, but you'll all be included eventually. You will, honest.)
So, yes, check it out at: http://www.webook.com/project/Deliver-U nto-Thee
This story focuses around Mist, a girl that grew up in the Archer Village of Payon. Mist lives alone with her father, who, like many of the other permanent residents of Payon, made a living by selling to the Archers that congregate there for training. With guild castles but a stones throw to the west, Payon also happens to be the home of (Fireworks and fanfare) the Phantom Thieves, a relatively peaceful though highly militarized guild. During a seige attempt on their stronghold, something cataclysmic occurs, and the result swarms Payon with a horde of beasts, demons, monsters, and relatively naked girls in cat suits (No, seriously. Google Moonlight Flower and you'll see what I mean) that are intent on nothing but destruction. In the ensuing rampage, much of the village is destroyed, and were it not for the rapid response of Phantom Thieves' allies and the citizens of Payon, the swarm would have gone unchecked. Even as it stood, the battle was looking grim, until two (or three, damn my indecision) new figures entered the fray.
That's all your getting for now. As always, I hope you enjoy.

Well, I said I'd update when I have 'net, and so I shall. Technically speaking, it's not my 'net, I'm picking up an open network signal so my connectivity is sort of iffy, but at least it's something. Let me say that again.
Jared has internet at home again.
So! Soon I shall begin writing more. In fact, since my computer has to be in a very inconvenient place to receive a signal, and I don't keep it here all the time, I can pretty much devote most of my time when the computer is elsewhere to writing. I plan on typing out some of the stuff I have in my various notebooks so that they can be reviewed by you all, but I'll have to scour them pretty thoroughly until I find the ones worth reading. So, those'll be soon, I hope. Aside from that, I plan on working on Shattered Remnant a good deal more, and starting up with Eternity, getting into the good bits.
Writing aside, I said there would be games, and there have been. These past few days I've spent filling my computer with as much as I could, including various MMO's that my friends play (I'm downloading one at the moment, actually.) So when those are done and have situated themselves into my time tables, you can expect perhaps fewer updates to things like this journal. I'm still getting the feel for having 'net at home again, it'll take a while until I've got a smooth flow established.
At any rate, there isn't much more to say that I haven't already said, so I'll leave it off here. Until next time.

I know I just made a journal post a short while ago, and normally I try to not make these all that often, but this time I'm making an exception to announce something that I've been anticipating for a good, long time. You see, today I have succeeded in placing an order on a (somewhat) decent, yet workable computer!
I'm excited about this because, in truth, it's been almost a full year since I've had one of my own. The last time I had a working computer was at the end of January of '08, and I'm getting this one a whole two weeks before the one-year mark on that particular loss. The computer itself isn't all that great, with low ram and processing speed, but I could actually afford it. It comes with no OS, but I'll get something with little complication, I hope. I won't have internet, at first, that'll wait just a bit longer until I can pay the monthly fees out of pocket without sacrificing the basic necessities.
Now, with that said, the reason I made this into a journal post is because I think a change of procedure is in order. Normally I do my writing at the Library, and while this has been fine for me so far, it's a pain in the lower backside as well. There's no privacy, and with the constant chatter (the staff is really lax about noise making), it's often difficult to concentrate on this or that. So, I've opted to begin writing at home once more, which I hope will make the process much smoother and less painful. Since I won't have internet at first, that means I won't be able to post what I write unless I pop the files onto a portable storage of some form (Data CD will be easiest, I think), and transfer them to these computers. So, if there are no unforeseen problems with this method, I think my writing updates will come more often, and perhaps be a shade better, in terms of quality. Now, with that all fine and planned out, I've also decided that I won't be writing anything until I get the computer at home working, mainly because I see no point in putting myself through the annoyances of writing in a public place any longer. The computer is due to arrive on or around the fifteenth of this month, I believe, and it might be a bit longer than that until I get a working OS onto the machine, but I don't expect it to be all -that- long. So, until then, there won't be any new submissions to announce. Afterwards, however, I'll likely enjoy the newfound privacy enough that the updates will come rapidly.
Well, there isn't a whole lot more to add really, except that I feel I should warn some people. The time is coming when I'll have free reign to bug you all whenever I desire. Beware, count your remaining days of peace, and sleep in fear. Take care, 'til then.

Well, I have reason to pat myself on the back today, at last. I finally got around to writing up the first chapter of a story that I've been planning for a while, now.
I started the story to have something to contribute to a group I was invited into on WeBook, which revolves around Dystopian Fiction. At first, I didn't know what that was, but the answer came simply enough after a few seconds of research. If you don't know what it is, however, it can be summed up in a few simple words. Dystopia is the opposite of Utopia. So, in order to qualify, it's my understanding that it must take place in a society that would be, at it's core, a rather terrifying place to live. The result of my short brainstorming session (and long bout of procrastination) has at last become:
http://www.webook.com/project/A-Lit tle-Faster
This is sort of different from what I usually write, whether that's for better or worse, I suppose, is up to you to decide. I hope you enjoy.

It's true, it isn't. It's cold and slippery.
I make this observation because in the ever-rainy state of Washington, it usually snows perhaps once or twice a year. This year, however, the sky dandruffed on us for a solid week. It has, inevitably, forced me to make the further observation that I don't like snow. It's cold. And slippery. And it makes places stay closed, like Libraries. If the Libraries are closed, I lack internet access. Damned snow.
So, yes, now that I've adequately grumbled about the weather, I can dismiss the urge to explain the lack of any new writing. If you're not sure why, it probably means I didn't type out that last paragraph clearly enough. Thus is my hatred of snow.
However, all is becoming well again. The snow has stopped, and what remains on the ground is melting (Hurrah!), so my routine may begin anew. Not being able to write with something other than pen, which I find inferior with very few exceptions, causes me some stress. It didn't, before, but recently I'm getting to enjoy the process more and more. There was, in fact, a time when I abhorred the idea of writing, but that was in school and I still got good grades and crap when I did. From there, it evolved into an activity that merely kept me content when there was nothing else to do. With my recent progress, it's something I look forward to.
Okay, enough of my moaning. I actually have a purpose for making this entry. This time, it's not writing! Weird, eh?
Since I lack my usual flair for drama today, I'll just come right out with it. The purpose for this particular entry is that I'm lazy. Utterly, appallingly lazy. Lazy enough, in fact, that I chose not to re-type the view of my daily life. So, Rei, if'n y'clicked that nifty little link I sent ya, this post is mostly so that I'll be answering your email and updating this journal at the same time. I'm thrifty.
Yes, you all have Rei to thank for having to sift through more of my blabbering. I love it.
Ah, what is there to talk about nowadays except the holidays? I don't take as much enjoyment from 'em as most, but they're still a big topic. So, my holidays. They weren't bad, this year, actually. My sister did what she usually does and got me over-large, but absurdly comfortable and warm clothing. I like the warm clothing. I'm wearing some of it now. Plus, she usually goes for designs that most would consider 'bad-ass', which I'm honestly relieved for. Flames, skulls, reptilian eyes, things like that. Even her boyfriend chipped in and got me something, which left me feeling somewhat guilty since I didn't think to get him anything. But, because of him, I've got one of those nifty little credit-card type gift cards. Cool, eh? Fifty bucks worth of plastic. Now I need to know what to spend it on.
Aside from that, as I mentioned before (E'ffing snow), it's been cold. Very cold. Cold enough that I shake my fist at the sky and urge global warming to take the blasted chill away. So I've been pretty much keeping myself tucked away in some small corner with some book or another in my hands. Thus, you see (you being both you, Rei, and you, the presently nameless reader who must suffer along with Rei), I haven't been doing a whole lot. The only thing I can really claim to have been doing, really, is going over story plots and stuff in my head. It's as good a way as any to pass the time, and I can sort of treat the mental version as a rough-rough draft, thus letting me save time actually writing the rough-rough draft, then scrapping it for the actual rough draft. Which, I'll admit, is a process that takes two minutes (I write a paragraph, curse at myself, delete it, and restart, that's all), it still gives a minor feeling of accomplishment.
So, um.. Yeah. There isn't a whole lot else going on with me, so I'll spare you (You and You), the pain of having to read more of my laziness-inspired-entry.
P.S. I miss you, damnit. No, not you, random reader; You, Rei.

I know, I should stop whoring out the writing here. It's amusing, though, so you'll have to suffer through it. Today I finished the third chapter of Shattered Remnant, which introduces another two characters and begins (finally) to mention plot points that will, in time, be the basis in which the story revolves. I have more than that to be proud of, however (I've never written a story that's gotten this far), for you see, today I was called a nerd! It's a grand day, for me at least.
In the course of this chapter, you're introduced to Zoe, who happens to be Reneixer's wife, to which I have to thank Christie for supplying the name; as well as Turquor. Random jibberish name, m'hm. He happens to be one of the Sorcerers that the story unfolds around. Plus, I've introduced a very minor 'character' of sorts that I hope, in time, will become significant in ways that transcend this individual story. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy reading this particular chapter, and as it seems direct links are permanently on the fritz, I'll once again supply a link to the general page so that you, my most-likely-bored-to-tears reader, won't have to sift through my earlier rants to find something of use.
Without further ado, I present: Shattered Remnant, Chapter 3
http://www.webook.com/project/Shattered-R emnant (click on the 'chapter 3' button on the right-hand side of the screen)
As always, I hope you enjoy your excursion into the odd world I'm beginning to have real fun building, and that you find yourself entertained as you read.
P.S. Despite how it begins, this chapter does not contain any really explicit material.

Once again, I post strictly to announce the completion (and posting) of another chapter in one of my stories. This one, like the last, is an update for Shattered Remnant. Yes, chapter 2 is now available for reading. Whoo, fanfare, fireworks, and pleasantries. Moving on.
This chapter took me a sinful amount of time to finish, strictly because I was lazy, the holidays bogged me down. Plus, it was unusually difficult for me, given that I had no clue what the hell to write for most of it. So, if it sounds rough, I apologize, but truthfully, it -is- a rough draft. It'll be fixed up eventually, I think. I hope. Okay, there's at least a decent chance that it might be polished, let's leave it at that.
It might be a while before I update with more writing, because chances are it'll take me a few lifetimes to figure out what I want the next chapter to incorporate, so, um, yeah. Be patient with me 'n stuff. I've got two stories I'm working on mainly, SR and Eternity. SR has a total of three posted chapters, so far (The prologue is it's own post), and Eternity has Chapter 1 and 2 up and ready to be read. So, with that said, I'm considering working on both stories evenly, though if I'm fair, there's more interest in SR than Eternity. If I want to be fair to both stories I'll probably write out Chapter 3 for Eternity next, or if I want to appease the few people that have shown some interest in SR, I'll be adding a Chapter 3 to that. Or! If I feel like saying to hell with all of it, I'll write something new and utterly random. Perhaps a short story. Who knows?
At any rate, it's now my pleasure to provide to you (You, who? Someone'll read this eventually) with another link. This time, you're lucky, I got a direct link (Sometimes it doesn't give me one. I'll figure out why later)

s'Been a while since my last update, and I told myself I wouldn't completely neglect this account (This time, at least,) so I figured it's update time. Fun, eh?
I haven't been writing much due to the holiday tomfoolery and whatnot, so I'm feeling somewhat a cheat. I like keeping my writing going at a steady pace, but Thanksgiving and the promise of yet another annoying Christmas season on the horizon have pretty much robbed me of my ability to write. I think the main reason is that everyone is cheery, I can't think straight with cheery people nearby. Plus, it just feels dirty and wrong to be around my family members when they're not cynical and forbidding. Ah well, come Dec. 26th, maybe I'll be able to write more than a damned paragraph a day (Pfft, more like sentence.)
So, what with my excuse for not having anything to really update this with out of the way, it's time for my usual standby: Cranky complaining! Don't you all (again, who the hell actually reads this?) feel special?
We've got a new table, today. Our first real piece of furniture since we've made the move to this place way back at the start of March. It's small, black-framed with round glass as a top, but it's got a nice combination of utilitarian design and simple aesthetic feel that make it a comfortable bit of work to use. I'd originally planned to use it to write or read on whenever everyone else was busy, or just not home, since writing on your lap while sitting on an air mattress is nowhere near as fun as it sounds. So, today, I find myself luckily alone enough that people won't notice (or bother) me much, so I gave it a whirl. I learn that, damnit, the thing is too short for me. The chairs we've got with it raise too high apparently, high enough that my knees can't fit under the damned glass, so I'm stuck leaning over looking like a child or invalid. Probably both, an invalid child. Go figure. After making this startling revelation, I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll be permanently reading and writing on a rapidly-deflating (Yet there are no holes, damnit again) air mattress for some time to come still. Well, at least it darkens my mood a bit, it's a nice counter to the damnable cheery nature of everyone else I seem to be around.
At any rate, I'll stop the complaining, since there isn't much else of interest I really feel should be said. Since I doubt I'll update this thing with my next writing submission before thanksgiving, I wish you all a bloody pleasant holiday in advance. By the way. Save me a leg.

Yep, more writing. I like to switch back and forth between projects, you see. At any rate, this is the only story I've ever worked on that people have actually asked me to continue, so that has to mean that it's not a pointless endeavor, eh? I love shameless self promotion.
I present to you now the first chapter of Shattered Remnant (actually my second post about it, the first being for the prologue). The prologue was finished months ago, and my only excuse for taking this long for the first chapter is that I've written three other submissions to Webook between now and then.
This chapter introduces Reneixer and his unique weapon, as well as explains a bit about the hand he had in the fall of a race I've coined the 'Divine', who are winged, slight, and obviously religion-oriented people. They, however, are not 'angels'. Call them angels and I'll chew your hand off. I don't like religion much, can you tell?

(Again, I can't link to the chapter directly. Click "Chapter 1" on the right-hand side, or go ahead and read the Prologue if you haven't done so before.)

Yep, as the title says. I've been writing again. Then again, I write pretty much daily, but it's usually not much. Today, though, I'd like to announce the posting of the second chapter of Eternity. It can be viewed from the earlier post when I first gave a link, but I'll add one for the specific chapter after this post.
This chapter's main purpose is to introduce more of the main characters for the story, the task of which will be completed in chapter 3. So, yes, if you're so inclined and think that it may entertain you for a while, give it a read.
On another note, I have more stories that I'm considering posting, but they're all hand-written at the moment, and bringing my papers to the Library just to copy them out into Google Docs is a pain (I have bad handwriting.) So, with that in mind, there may be more in the eventual future.
Edit: Okay, nix the exact link. I'm not getting a new link for each chapter anymore. Sorry, but it seems you're all (All, who?) stuck with the main link.

M'hm. Blah, indeed.
I'm currently working on Eternity, fleshing out the characters and planning. I think I like the direction the story is heading, and I'm pleased with the characters as well, now if I could translate that into the story itself, it'd be grand.
I don't normally have difficulties writing when I have the scenes envisioned in my mind, and the characters determined and final. Instead, I've always been hard pressed to create characters and craft the scenes to begin with. Today, however, my capabilities seem to have reversed themselves. I truly have no clue why, but I'm failing to even write Chapter 2, which I hope to merely introduce the main characters as well as others. I like how it starts, I really do, but I think I've taken it in the wrong direction beyond that. Perhaps I should just read it over a few times until I know where it makes that turn and re-write from that point on? I'll figure it out later.
Beyond that, my writing time is more engaging than it used to be. Thanks to Christie, I now have a more diversified music source, so it's keeping me entertained longer. It seems I can't write unless there's music playing. Anyway, because I like to have something to include with my posts, I shall present to you all (I like to delude myself into thinking people read this) with a short story I wrote some time ago, after a friend requested I join her project based on amusing children's stories. I normally don't write this sort of thing, but hey, it really was a request.

Brief description: Darrel, a young boy in elementary school, has no friends and is rather depressed. A class visit to celebrate graduation to Middle School brings him to a strange place where he finds the friends he never made in school. (There's a word limit, but I may re-write this later on in a more detailed script)

I've realized that I said rather little about myself, so, um, yeah...
As titled, my name is Jared. I've also gone by Zel, a nickname derived from certain characters I've made in online games, as well as Daniel, a name that a friend called me once that stuck and grew, which is derived from my middle name. I've even been called Ash, which is short for Ashton, another game character I made several years ago.
From the first two posts I've made here you can see that I like to write, and if I may be bold enough, I think I'm alright at the craft. I don't plan on becoming a professional writer, but I still like to write as a hobby. It's a good outlet for my thoughts, which is inimitable through other means. I mostly write Fantasy or Horror based stories, but I have tried other genres, including children's stories (It was a request, I swear...), but I do have my boundaries. I refuse to write poetry, abso-bloody-lutely refuse.
Currently, I'm awaiting various paperwork to clear before I begin attending college, where I plan to study for a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. With degree in hand, afterward, I'd like to either pursue a career in military aviation, civilian aviation, or (as the degree suggests) aeronautical engineering. I like planes. I really like planes. Can you tell?
Aside from that, I've been thought of as a generic 'good boy'. I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, etc, and I think my worst habit is buying raspberry flavored White Tea in those giant 1.5 liter bottles. Though, if one were to take a look at my writing style or speak to the few people I still keep in touch with, this notion would quickly be dismissed. I'm typically an asshole to people at large, or at least I'd like to think I am. I tend to keep to myself and have a rather quiet demeanor, unless I have specific reason to abandon the withdrawn nature.
My free time is hoarded for nearly daily library trips, which I use for reading and writing. At my last count, I believe I've read upward of 80 books this year, and I spend at least two or three hours a day writing. Goes to show how boring I am, eh? Beyond that, I play a lot of RPGs and action-y type games, usually of the PS2 variety.
What time I have that isn't free (damnit) is usually spent doing various house-holdy crap, which while I'm not proud of, I must admit is entirely necessary as I seem to be the only one inclined to do it. I babysit my two nieces daily, which includes things like helping them with homework and offering temporary solutions to the constant childish bickering.
So, yeah, that sums me up pretty well. Oh, and I have a rabbit. He doesn't have a name, 'cause I'm lazy like that.

Alright, two posts in a day. I don't normally do that. But hey, I've got more writing I'd like to share. This one is another story idea I'm fond of, and one that I've been revising in my mind for quite a while now. I've already written a few chapters in first person perspective, but I thought it'd be better from a third-person viewpoint. So, if you'd like to take a look, I present to you Eternity

Brief Description: In an expansive mansion tucked away in a quiet forest and hidden from the rest of the world by tall mountains, Xenos gives the order for a village to be razed to a brutal man, who isn't a man at all. A young girl, Amina, survives the assault and is somehow whisked away. Later in life, Amina joins a nameless (I'm indecisive, I can't pick a name) resistance group and attempts to put an end to her former landlords various plots and schemes.

Yep, first post. Who'da thought it?
Anyway, I made this account for a few main reasons. The first is to have more branches for with to lead people back to my writings. I'm not sure how well that will work or if it's even necessary, but I might as well give it a shot, right? So, with that in mind, if anyone actually ever looks at this (And I update it, heh) they'll likely see at least a few references to my amateur scribbles. I hope that, if you come across such an spectacle, and you're not too horribly busy, you'll take a peek. And furthermore, for those that do take said peek, I hope that I bring you at least a few moments of entertainment that you'll look back on positively.
That said, the second reason I made this is that I'm horrendously bored these days, and I quite like the idea of anything that'll keep me occupied on at least some level. With my incredibly small collection of correspondents I have, a site like this that brings me in contact with other people sounds rather nice to me. Besides, it's always nice meeting new people, right?
Now then, just to make this post have some substance, I'll include a link to a small bit of writing that I feel rather fond of. Again, if anyone should have the ability and inclination to read it, I hope you enjoy the time you spend humoring my prose.

After the ground-shattering wars had ended, a hunt began. A hunt for the winged angel-like people that had risen in arms against them, the victorious humans, along with the creator.
